Church Mead pupils at the Capital Radio recording studios

Leyton Orient kids meet Capital Radio stars

On Wednesday 13th March schoolchildren from Church Mead Primary School accompanied Leyton Orient Community Sports Programmes education staff to record an interview supporting the work of Capital Radios Help a London Child charity at its headquarters in Leicester Square. The charity has provided funding this year for the Community Programme’s afterschool Playing for Success clubs that children from Church Mead, Dawlish, Barclay, Newport and George Mitchell have attended over the last term.

The children and their teacher Jackie Levy were very excited at the prospect of seeing behind the scenes at the radio station and were shown the news and sports desks before being ushered into the recording studio. Each pupil then recorded a short speech outlining what they had learned at the afterschool club that will be broadcast in conjunction with Capital Radios new appeal over the Easter weekend.

Philip Rudling, Education Manager at Leyton Orient was delighted to see the pupils enjoy the trip to the West End and said, The kids were surprised at how easy it was recording an interview. They also got very excited meeting DJ Margerita Taylor and seeing where So Solid Crew had been interviewed ! He added, It was a good experience for the group to participate in the recording session and ties in neatly with our ethos of supporting the pupils’ personal development.
